On Friday 24th October 2008, the Welsh Charitables RFC, with the support of Pontypridd RFC, are hosting a charity dinner at Sardis Road. The dinner is in recognition of Pontypridd stalwart and legend Bob Penberthy, fondly known as “the Bionic Elbow” – who played an amazing 877 games for his beloved Ponty between 1961 and 1985.
Joining Bob, Susan and their family – daughters Kay and her husband Alan, and Gail and her husband Peter, will be a number of former Wales and British Lions internationals, who will give an insight during the course of the evening of Bob as a player, an opponent and a friend.
Bob has kindly requested that all money raised on the night will go to the “We Want A Million” appeal, to set up a trust fund to support the Welsh Charitables RFC’s nominated charities, namely Ty Hafan – the Children’s Hospice of Wales, St Anne’s Hospice, St David’s Foundation Hospice Care, the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust ( a trust to support players at all levels injured whilst playing the game) and WREX – the Wales Former International Players’ Association… all very worthwhile charities.
Places at the dinner are priced at £45 per seat, and £450 per table of ten – which includes a five course meal. The dress code will be lounge suits or blazers and greys. The evening will be a 6:45pm meet for a 7:30pm sit down.
