Winning start for Coleg y Cymoedd
Coleg y Cymoedd have got off to a positive start in their WRU Schools & Colleges league campaign, with two bonus point wins in their first two games.
Cymoedd play their home fixtures at Sardis Road and are coached by Pontypridd assistant coach Gareth Wyatt.
On Tuesday evening 19th September Coleg y Cymoedd powered their way to a 23pts to 45 bonus point win over Cardiff and the Vale at the Arms Park.
Having conceded two early penalties to Tony Lamerton, Cymoedd eased their way into a 9pts to 17 interval lead thanks to tries from lock Cian Lewis-Hughes and back rower Ioan Davies.
Wales U16 cap Lewis-Hughes, younger brother of Pontypridd, Blues and Wales U20 flanker Shane, powered over from close range, while Davies capitalised on a strong shove from his pack at a five metre scrum that forced CAVC No 8 Reuben Williams to pick up on the retreat and lose the ball.
Cymoedd right wing George Thomas scored within a minute of the re-start before a volley of three tries in eight minutes took the game completely away from CAVC. Centre Ioan Davies weaved his way through and then Joe Vickers and Will Clapham rounded things off.
There was a late revival from the home side, but tries from Cavel Sinclair and Lamerton were merely consolation scores.
The Cymoedd squad that defeated Cardiff and the Vale was:
Iwan Price-Thomas; George Thomas, Joe Vickers, Leon Davies; Rhys Davies, Josh Oakley; Garyn Phillips, Ieuan Morris, Fraser Hughes, Cian Lewis-Hughes, Thomas John, Ioan Davies, Callun James – cpt, Ieuan Pring
Reps: Garran Williams, Matthew Isles, Iestyn Haskins, Mitchell Barnard, Lloyd Gregory, Nathan Griffiths, Cavan Slade, Will Clapham
The previous week Coleg y Cymoedd had beaten Gower by 63pts to 14 at Sardis Road, with an eight try tally.
Cymoedd now sit joint top of the Schools & Colleges league table, along with Coleg Gwent, with a maximum ten point return from their two games played.
