Locks and Dico play on
The Pontypridd squad for the 2020-21 campaign will once again be able to call upon the valued services of two senior members – centre Dafydd Lockyer and lock Chris Dicomidis.
The two club stalwarts’ playing careers have run almost parallel over the past sixteen seasons, both called up by Pontypridd as youngsters at the start of the semi-pro era, both capped by Wales at youth and under 21 levels, both Barbarians, both in turn having been nominated as club captain, both triple centurions in terms of appearances and both having gained a reputation as stand out performers in the Premiership.
Abercwmboi product Daf Lockyer stepped up to senior level with Pontypridd, from the club academy, in 2003. Apart from a brief spell with Neath in 2007 he has given unstinting service to the club, a dominant figure in midfield and serving as captain since 2014, having so far played 381 games in black and white.
Towering lock Chris Dicomidis has similar credentials, having joined the Celtic Warriors Academy from his home club Pencoed and enlisting with Ponty in 2004. Nominated as club captain in 2011 he was rewarded with a call-up to the senior Blues squad in 2013 before making a return to Pontypridd in 2016 and going on to tally 358 appearances.
As Pontypridd RFC will continue with its policy of nurturing young local talent through its ranks, the presence of two hugely experienced players in the form of Dafydd Lockyer and Chris Dicomidis, will be a real bonus going into the coming season.
