Henry Briscoe along with his brother Phillip were associates of the Spickett brothers and were instrumental in the founding of Pontypridd RFC circa 1876.
Henry Briscoe played as a forward and took over the captaincy of the club in 1878 at 17 years of age. Living in Hopkinstown he was the son of the General Manager and part owner of the Great Western Colliery and was probably educated at a residential school such as Cowbridge where his rugby playing association with the Spicketts would have developed.
