Baber receives Fijian honour
Former Pontypridd scrum half Gareth Baber has been given the ultimate accolade in his adopted homeland, having been made an Honourary Officer of the Order of Fiji. The award has been given for distinguished service of a high degree to the country.
The award was presented by the President of Fiji in a ceremony at State House on Tuesday 24th November 2020 (above).
Baber is the current head coach of the Fiji Sevens squad and has led them to their fourth World Sevens Series title.
As a player, Gareth Baber played for his home city club Cardiff, Aberavon and then Bristol before making a move to Pontypridd in 2001. During his career he was a regular member of the Wales Sevens squad.
Having made 43 appearances for Ponty, often in contention for the no 9 shirt with club legend Paul John, Baber joined the Gwent Dragons in 2003.
All at Pontypridd RFC will wish to congratulate Gareth on his latest achievement in being honoured by the Fijian nation.
