Manager’s Blog – Dan Godfrey
Happy New Year – Blwyddyn Newydd Dda. I hope that everyone is keeping safe and well during these most uncertain times.
It seems a lifetime ago that we travelled up to Merthyr for a what was a good league victory. If someone would have said at the time that there would be no more rugby played and we would go on to have a global pandemic, I would have laughed at them!
The squad in the meantime have been training individually in isolation and we have been monitoring them as closely as we can. I am in contact with the squad and coaching staff and all remain in good spirits. Everyone is itching to get back to Sardis and soak up the match-day atmosphere. The players and coaches do very much value and miss the close relationship we have with the fans, it is a massive part of why players come and play for Ponty.
On a personal note, the past year has been remarkably busy and challenging, and that is without rugby! Having to juggle three children, home schooling, going to school myself as a teacher and having a front-line NHS nurse as a wife, it has been demanding but we recognise that we are lucky to have our health and there are lots of people and families in a far worse situation because of this pandemic. Our thoughts are with those families.
On a final note, we can only hope that we get back playing rugby soon, but in the meantime, I ask you to listen to and abide by the government’s rules.
Stay safe and I hope to see everyone back at Sardis Road before too long. Ole.
