We’ve had to wait a long time but as a squad we’re finally back in training at Sardis Road and with some match action to look forward to.
It just feels good to be back around the club once again. The boys have been training really hard in the sessions that we’ve had and pushing themselves to the limit. Some players have left but there are a lot of new faces around the place who seem to have settled in really well. Its been good and the coaches are happy with where we are at the moment.
Everyone is now looking forward to the Newport friendly coming up on Saturday and to putting in a big performance on our comeback. No doubt there will be some sore bodies for a couple of days afterwards but it will be all worthwhile, just to get back playing again. It will also be good to hopefully catch up with some of the old faces in the crowd who we haven’t been able to meet up with for the past eighteen months or so.
I have been lucky in getting some match practice recently in playing for my local club Abercwmboi and some others from our squad have been able to get runouts for the likes of Llantwit Fardre and Ynysybwl – every little helps in gaining match fitness and getting ready for the pre-season.
I hope all the fans are safe and well after the pandemic and looking forward to being back at Sardis Road to watch some rugby. The team are certainly looking forward to seeing them all again and to be performing in front of them after such a long break.
It will be a fresh start for everyone, and with a bit of a squad rebuild going on we will need to hit the ground running going into the new season. It will be tough, but the run of friendly games starting with Newport on Saturday will give us a good idea of where we are before the competitive matches come around later in September. We’re all primed for action and confident that we can give it a good go – see you Saturday.
