Tracking the Trailfinders
Pontypridd will play their second pre-season friendly match of the summer against English opponents Ealing Trailfinders Academy on Friday 20th August (7:30pm ko).
The Ealing club was founded in 1869 and spent many decades competing in the local London divisions whilst supplying players to represent Middlesex at county level.
Having endured some hard times during the 90s the club redefined itself, moving to a new home at the Trailfinders Sports Club in 1999, which proved to be a catalyst for a significant improvement in fortunes. The newly branded Ealing Trailfinders moved rapidly up the league structure to claim its current place in the Green King Championship.
The Academy section plays a significant role in the club structure, providing home grown players to the senior squad. Youngsters from the age of 16 are drafted into its ranks, with a link to the Brunel University, providing a pathway to the Senior Academy and beyond. It will be against this talented squad that Ponty will play on Friday evening.
The two clubs have met previously, in another pre-season friendly back in August 2015, when Ponty suffered a home defeat against the Trailfinders senior team by 11pts to 40.
