Guto Davies calls time with Ponty media team
After more than thirty years service with the Pontypridd RFC media team, Guto Davies is now stepping down from his involvement with the club.
Having first volunteered on to the old sub-committee structure back in the late 1980s Guto later took up the duties of Media Officer going into the professional era, editing the club website, match programme and Ponty TV video channel.
The aim in recent times had been to undergo a process of succession within the media team, which now takes place as Geraint Thomas steps up to head the team with a direct link to the Ponty Rugby board of directors.
Commenting on his departure, Guto Davies said: “It has been an absolute privilege to work for Pontypridd RFC over the years, it’s a great club, a vibrant club with a passionate support, which makes the work of media coverage so much easier.
“I have been able to work with some top coaches, the likes of Lynn Howells, Simon King and Dale McIntosh to name but a few which have been lasting friendships, with some of the best players of their times, and with some real characters. Rarely has there been a dull moment along the way.”
Geraint Thomas, who is succeeding Guto as Head of the club’s Media Team said: “Since I’ve been involved with the club’s media over the last few years, working alongside Guto has been a pleasure. His professionalism and commitment to Ponty RFC over many, many years is unquestionable and I’ve got some massive shoes to fill.”
Hon. CEO Steve Reardon commented: “For as long as I can recall, the words Guto Davies and Media Officer have been synonymous at Pontypridd RFC. Although the Club’s Media Officer is an honorary role, Guto has always been the consummate professional in, either liaising with journalists and the wider media on behalf of the Club or, in reporting upon the Club with objectivity and principle. On behalf of Pontypridd RFC, I thank him most sincerely for all that he has done to promote the cause of the Club with aplomb.”
