Matchday Preview – Cardiff v Pontypridd
Pontypridd’s next outing is a week today – a Boxing Day derby in the capital against old foes Cardiff RFC. The match on Monday 26th December at the Arms Park kicks off at 2:30pm.
There’s no need to hype up matches between the two clubs with derby bragging rights at stake. It’s fair to say that since rugby returned post-Covid-19 pandemic it’s the Blue & Blacks who’ve earned the right to brag having won all four meetings between the sides in that period – three times last season and once this.
Pontypridd will be only too aware of the enormity of the task on Boxing Day, Cardiff are the reigning league Champions and are sitting at the top of the table this season having just come off the back of a huge 82-0 win against Carmarthen Quins last Saturday. In contrast Ponty’s match away at RGC was postponed due to the sub-zero temperatures that swept across the country last week.
As always Ponty have been working hard in training, but at different locations. Last Tuesday the squad were put through their paces using the world-class facilities at USW (above). Thursday evening the lads trained at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen Rugby (below).
