Matchday Preview – Pontypridd v Cardiff
This Saturday 2nd September Pontypridd RFC welcome neighbours Cardiff RFC to Sardis Road to kick off the team’s Indigo Group Premiership campaign. The mouth-watering, season opening match kicks off at 2:30pm.
Saturday’s match is a repeat of last season when the two clubs again met on the opening weekend in 2022 at Sardis Road. Cardiff won a competitive match by 26 points to 12 – two quick-fire tries on the stroke of half-time ultimately earning the visitors the win although Ponty showed plenty of heart but fell short of earning anything out of the match which their endeavours deserved.
The away leg then took place on Boxing Day when Ponty travelled down the A470 to the capital. Despite only trailing by one score, 15-8 at halftime, Cardiff pulled away in the second half to seal a 39-13 win to achieve a season’s league double over Ponty.
Pontypridd go into Saturday’s match with a good pre-season behind them which saw the side earn a clean sweep of wins against Pontypool, Cinderford and Bargoed respectively.
Visitors Cardiff only played one match during their pre-season – last Thursday 24th August winning 67-0 away at Porth Harlequins.
Matches between Pontypridd and Cardiff do not need any hyping up and this one is no exception with both clubs looking for a derby win to get their seasons off to a perfect start.

Tickets – Admission on the day will be £12 full, £10 concession access-all-areas and under 16’s free if accompanied by a paying adult. We are also pleased to have introduced a family ticket for our Youth and Mini & Junior sections.
Season Tickets – For supporters that have ordered season tickets in our many varied packages, these can be collected from the Clubhouse before Saturday’s match.
Club Shop – To purchase your Ponty RFC merchandise, the Club Shop will be open both before and after the match.
Live Sport – The Clubhouse will be open from midday and will be showing live Premier League football – Sheffield United v Everton which kicks off 12:30pm plus other selected live sport throughout the day.
