Matchday Preview – Pontypridd v Swansea
Next up for Pontypridd RFC is an Indigo Group Premiership match against Swansea RFC on Saturday 11th November, kick-off at Sardis Road is 2:30pm.
Saturday’s match will be Ponty’s first at Sardis for four weeks, the last being the team’s bonus point win against Bridgend on 14th October.
Pontypridd and the All Whites of Swansea won one match apiece in last season’s league campaign. Firstly, on Saturday 1st October Swansea won at St. Helen’s – after an hour’s play the scores were locked at 17-all before a fifteen-minute blitz from the home side saw them claim a bonus point win by 45 points to 22. Ponty did come away with a four-try bonus point of their own thanks to tries from Aled Ward, Rory Harries, Niko Matawalu and a penalty-try.
Then on Saturday 6th May Pontypridd finished their season on a high when they beat Swansea by 29 points to 10 in the final match of the campaign at Sardis Road, tries by Niko Matawalu, Nathan Huish, Kristian Parker and Aled Ward sealed a bonus point win.
Two wins in a row for Ponty have been followed by two defeats away from home in their last two outings, firstly against Pontypool, and then by Newport last Wednesday. In a weekend that was severely affected by the weather, Swansea were lucky that their fixture schedule took them to the artificial pitch at the Wern to face off against Merthyr last Saturday. But that’s where their luck ended as they were downed 29-21 by the Ironmen.
Pontypridd will be looking to start rebuilding momentum now in the run up to the festive period, so your support really will make the difference this Saturday Ponty Fans – be the 16th Valley Commando!
