Cymoedd stay ahead of the chasing pack
Coleg y Cymoedd got back to winning ways in the WRU Schools & Colleges League on Wednesday 6th December, with a 34pts to 13 home victory over Newport High School at Sardis Road.
Having stalled to an uncharacteristic away defeat to Coleg Gwent on their previous outing – their first reverse of the campaign – Cymoedd secured victory over the Newport visitors to maintain top spot in the Schools & Colleges league table.
Coleg y Cymoedd remain two points clear of Ysgol Glantaf, who have a similar playing record this season of nine wins from ten games played.
Cymoedd Head Coach Lee Davies was happy to see his squad record a vital victory that ensures qualification for the play-off stages of the league.
“It was a tough game against Newport, who were quality opponents and who held us close until after the interval” said Davies. “We opened up to secure the bonus point win which was so important.”
Cymoedd now have two league fixtures remaining before the play-off stage, the first being a top of the table clash away to Ysgol Glantaf on 17th January. An extended squad can be utilised in these games as Lee Davies explained:
“We have a large number of players who will now be involved with the Blues in the regional under 18s tournament, but this gives us an ideal opportunity to develop players from within the squad in what will be two big league games remaining.”
