Niko Matawalu joined Pontypridd RFC in the summer of 2022 having had a glittering career in the professional game. Born in Suva, Fiji, he won 41 caps for his country and listed Glasgow Warriors, Bath and Montauban amongst some of his former clubs during his career.
Niko combined playing for Ponty with his studies at USW, his studies specialising in Rugby Coaching and Analytics.
Niko was a real favourite with the Ponty faithful during his two seasons with the Club. His playing time was cut short in his second season with Pontypridd due to an ankle injury picked up in the 2023 pre-season. He made a return to action for three matches at the end of the 2023/24 season before departing the Club scoring 6 tries overall.
