RGC v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview
This Saturday 13th April Pontypridd contest their final match of the 2023/24 season when they make the trip to North Wales to play RGC. The Indigo Group Premiership clash at Parc Eirias kicks off at 2:30pm.
Ponty will be looking to right the wrongs of last season in Colwyn Bay – on Saturday 11th March 2023 an injury-ravaged Pontypridd squad headed to Parc Eirias for a rearranged fixture and after a nightmare journey north suffered a 42 points to 3 reverse. Ponty’s last win at the Gogs’ home came back on Saturday 22nd January 2022. The 30-25 triumph that afternoon saw the Valley Commandos progress through to the quarter-final stage of the Welsh Premiership Cup at the expense of the hosts.
Earlier this season Pontypridd enjoyed a 29-17 bonus point win when the two sides met just before Christmas at Sardis Road. A brace of tries from Joel Raikes and one try apiece for Ryan Wilkins and Aled Ward sealed the victory.
Pontypridd sit in 6th place in the Premiership table and are now unable to finish in the top four, whilst RGC occupy 12th. With that in mind the shackles will be off for both teams and with weather forecast looking favourable for both Saturday and the couple of days preceding it, the chances of an entertaining contest are high.
This weekend’s match will also be the first outing for Pontypridd RFC since yesterday’s announcement that Chris Dicomidis, Garyn Smith and Kristian Parker have taken the coaching team reins on a permanent basis.
SUPPORTERS TRAVEL –
The Pontypridd Supporters Club have organised a three-day excursion to North Wales to coincide with the match. For supporters that have booked onto the trip, the coach will be leaving Sardis Road at 10:00am on Friday 12th April.
The address for the stadium is – Parc Eirias, Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay, Conwy, LL29 7SP.
Safe travels Ponty Fans, we’ll see you all up north this Saturday! Ole!
