Joe Davies signs for Ponty
Pontypridd RFC are delighted to announce the signing of Joe Davies from Llanharan RFC for the 2024/25 season. The 27-year-old wing or centre rejoins Ponty having made 24 appearances for the Club between 2016-2022.
Joe played his junior age grade rugby for Ponty, starting at under 12s all the way through to Youth. When he finished playing for Ponty Youth he was drafted straight into the Senior side and played 17 games during the 2016/17 season, scoring 5 tries in the process.
Joe departed the Club to travel and play in both California and New Zealand for just over a year. He then returned to Ponty ahead of the 2021 covid-restart, making a further 7 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign.
The powerful winger then left the Club to pursue a career in the police force as he didn’t have the required time to commit to semi-pro rugby. Joe’s work became more settled and he joined Llanharan last season and helped the club win the treble of league, cup and Silver Bowl at the end of 2023/24. On a personal level he finished top try scorer for The Dairymen during their treble winning campaign.
Joe combines his club rugby with playing for South Wales Police – who are the current British champions, Welsh Police RFC – who are the current 4 Nations Champions, and the British Police rugby team.
He’s played for Pontypridd with all the current members of the Club’s coaching team and is raring to go for the new campaign.
On rejoining Pontypridd, Joe said: “I’m really looking forward to returning to Pontypridd having played all my age grade and majority of senior rugby for the club back in 2016/17 and 2021. I can’t wait to return to Sardis Road with more experience than when I last departed and hopefully I can obtain some silverware with the boys.”
Commenting on Joe’s signing, Ponty Backs Coach Garyn Smith said: “It’s great to get Joe back onboard after a few seasons away, enjoying a successful year with Llanharan. Joe being an ex-Ponty youth player is fantastic to show the pathway from youth and develop the clubs pathway. Joe is a strong, fast, physical player who is exciting to watch with ball in hand and he can cause defences problems. We look forward to linking up in preseason and pulling on the Ponty jersey.”
Croeso nôl, Joe!
