Pontypridd v Bonymaen – Matchday Preview
This Saturday 2nd November Pontypridd RFC are back in league action, and we welcome Bonymaen RFC to Sardis Road in the Admiral Premiership for a 2:30pm kick-off.
The two clubs have met on two previous occasions, both matches coming in the Welsh Cup and both were played at Sardis Road. The first meeting took place on 20/12/1997 and Pontypridd won by 43 points to 3, the second encounter saw a similar 47-12 scoreline in Ponty’s favour on 27/2/1999.
Bony secured promotion to this season’s Premiership after finishing 4th in Championship West last season, winning 14 out of 22 of their matches in 2023/24. Ponty and Bonymaen have had contrasting starts to the 2024/25 campaign, Ponty have won all five of their league matches and sit at the top of the Premiership standings and remain the only club with a 100% record to date. Bony are in 11th position, their sole win came against Newcastle Emlyn.
Last Saturday Ponty’s winning run continued, by the barest of margins, when a last-kick-of-the-match penalty-goal from Jacob Symes saw the Valley Commandos progress from the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup away at Bargoed by a 29-28 scoreline. Bonymaen bowed out of this season’s Welsh Cup at the first round stage, losing 28-22 away at Narberth.
