Neath v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview

Next up Pontypridd RFC hit the road and travel away to face off against Neath RFC this Saturday 30th November. The Admiral Premiership match at the Lextan Gnoll kicks off at 2:30pm.

The Premiership returns following a one-week break from matches last Saturday, and for Pontypridd the huge clashes just keep on coming – this weekend’s match between the two most successful clubs in the semi-pro era of the Welsh Premiership sees second play first. For Ponty it also heralds the first match under the reign of new interim-Head Coach Kristian Parker.

A 21st minute score by Rob Jones was Ponty’s only try at the Lextan Gnoll last season.

The two teams’ last meeting at the Lextan Gnoll was 14 months ago and there was nothing between them on that occasion. A sole Rob Jones try accompanied six Josh Phillips penalties to earn Ponty an extremely hard-fought 23-22 win on Saturday 30th September 2023. The last time the two clubs met was at Sardis Road on Saturday 13th January 2024, Pontypridd ran in eight tries for a 48 points to 10 win that afternoon to seal a season’s double in 2023/24.

The Admiral Welsh Premiership table, accurate as of 25/11/2024.

Pontypridd and Neath have identical records in the league so far this season having both won 7 out of 8 matches, with both teams sole defeat coming against Merthyr. The Valley Commandos sit one point and one place ahead of Neath at the top of the standings courtesy of having picked up one more bonus-point than the Welsh All Blacks during the current campaign.

Our travelling support has been outstanding so far this season and with one supporters bus already sold out, we are expecting another large contingent of #PontyFans to roar the team on again this Saturday.
