Pontypridd v Llangennech – Matchday Preview

This Saturday 18th January Pontypridd RFC will be hoping they eventually kick off 2025 when Llangennech RFC come to town. The Admiral Premiership match against the Bois y Llan takes place at Sardis Road and will get underway at the usual time of 2:30pm.

Ponty visited Llangennech for their second match of the season back on Saturday 21st September, and that game was also the first ever meeting between the two clubs. It was a tough away day for the Valley Commandos in what proved to be an extremely physical contest, but tries in each half from Cally James and Joe Miles saw Pontypridd win by a single point – 14 points to 13.

Joe Miles, who bagged himself a try in the match, was one of Ponty’s top performers when the teams met in Carmarthenshire last September.

Only two Premiership matches survived the big freeze over the weekend that has just passed, and Ponty’s game away at Bargoed and Llangennech’s away Newbridge were not amongst them. Pontypridd still remain in first place in the league standings, although Neath have reduced the gap to just three points following their 21-all draw at home to Brecon.

The Admiral Welsh Premiership table, accurate as of 13/1/2025.

Llangennech’s last match was on the 4th January where they narrowly lost at home to Bargoed by 19 points to 16. Their 12th place league position doesn’t reflect the Bois y Llan’s competitiveness in the Premiership this season – they have enjoyed wins against Narberth and Bonymaen, whilst losing narrowly to Brecon all away from home, whilst arguably their result of the campaign to date was a 24-17 home win against Merthyr.

By the time this Saturday comes around it will have been four weeks since Kristian Parker’s men will have played match, so #PontyFans, make sure you pack the ground and help get 2025 off to the best possible start for the Valley Commandos!
