The Graham Gittins Lounge

Pontypridd RFC are proud to announce that the Gibby Bar, located underneath the Grandstand at Sardis Road is to be renamed the Graham Gittins Lounge in honour of one of our all-time greats.

Graham Gittins is a legendary former player of the club who made his debut on the 9th September 1954, and played the last of his 444 matches for Pontypridd on 4th April 1969 – a tally that puts him third on the club’s all-time appearances list.

As well as one of our greatest former players, Graham was also Club Captain during his playing days and since hanging up his boots has remained heavily involved within the club in roles including fixture secretary, secretary, chairman and in recent years heavily involved with the Friends of Pontypridd. As well as that, Graham is a stalwart supporter who follows the club home and away everytime the team plays season after season.

The rededication ceremony will take place on Saturday 15th February at 1:30pm just prior to the team’s Admiral Premiership match against Cardiff Met. Graham and members of his family will be in attendance, and there will be a buffet and drinks available to commemorate the occasion.

Honorary Club Secretary Steve Reardon said: “The Oxford English Dictionary defines the adjective “iconic” as, “designating a person or thing regarded as representative of a culture or movement”. As one of only a handful of players, to both Captain and to make more than four hundred appearances for Pontypridd RFC, to serve on the Club Committee and on that of ‘the Friends of Pontypridd, his record speaks for itself. Therefore, it is a fitting tribute to dedicate a room that he has frequented over many years, to the iconic Graham Gittins; a true ‘icon’ of Pontypridd RFC and of Welsh club rugby.”

We are delighted to be able to honour the contribution that Graham has made to the Club over seven decades – a true Pontypridd RFC legend.
