Premiership round up – 12/05/18
Saturday 12th May was the day that the Premiership was won, with Merthyr reclaiming the league crown with something to spare.
The Ironmen, still with one fixture left to play, travelled to Bargoed and came away with a 7pts to 35 victory, making their lead at the top of the table unassailable.
Their closest rivals Pontypridd signed off their campaign in style with an eight try tally in their eighth consecutive win, by 28pts to 56 at Cross Keys. Llandovery, with a game in hand over Ponty, maintained hopes of a second place finish with a 21pts to 28 away win against Swansea.
Carmarthen Quins edged a 18pts to 14 victory over Neath who made the most of a losing bonus point to climb off the bottom of the table. There were also close fought encounters at Parc y Scarlets where Llanelli narrowly beat Bedwas by 31pts to 30 and at the Talbot Athletic where Bridgend were 14pts to 17 victors.
RGC recorded a six try, 43pts to 36 home win over Newport whilst Ebbw Vale enjoyed their visit to the capital city with a 17pts to 20 victory over Cardiff.
