Fun loving physio Kerry Jones stands down
As the league season comes to a close a Pontypridd RFC stalwart is standing down from his duties with the club. Kerry Jones has been a physio with the senior squad for the best part of thirteen years and has also established himself as a popular figure with players and supporters alike.
Kerry had previous experience working with Cilfynydd RFC and the Mid District RFU before joining up with Pontypridd, under the guidance of medical co-ordinator Dai Thomas. He has since become a permanent feature in the changing room and on the field of play on match days, giving some much needed ‘tlc’ to the injured and battle weary players.
Under the guise of his alter-ego ‘Kerry Gold’ the physio has also doubled up on numerous occasions as a comedian and host fronting social events at Sardis Road. If laughter is the cure for any ailments, Kerry had plenty to offer in terms of therapy of the soul.
Kerry Jones now departs Pontypridd RFC to focus on the needs of his family, and can do so with no regrets and plenty of good memories.
“Ponty RFC has been a massive part of my life since my first game when we played Llanelli on a Tuesday night all those years ago” said Kerry. “My family have supported me whole heartedly in giving such a huge commitment to the club and it is now time that I show the same commitment to them.
“I have achieved all my goals with the club, attended thirteen league and cup finals, been on some great trips to Ireland and some of the big English football stadiums, and most of all have made some great friends. I will be sad to step down from my duties but I can do so with a sense of pride and achievement.”
Whilst willing to help out in future on the occasional match day, Kerry Jones’ departure from Pontypridd RFC will be acknowledged by all involved with the club, extending a collective vote of thanks to a unique character – the fleet footed, fun loving physio.
