Pontypridd VS Bedwas

In front of the Ponty faithful, Captain Daf Lockyer led the team out with his three children for his 350th appearance for the club.
With a brief respite from the rain, a missed penalty by Bedwas in the 6th minute resulted in
a period of pressure on Bedwas line, with numerous penalties. Finally, a penalty try was
given to Ponty in 19th minute. With a yellow card as a result of the penalty try, Chris Budgeon of Bedwas spent 10 minutes in the bin.
A period of sustained pressure by Bedwas saw a great try saving tackle by Corey Howells.
Rhodri Jones was next to be given a yellow card at 24 mins, resulting in a penalty kicked by
Dion Macintosh making it 7-3 to Ponty.
A scintillating run by Alex Webber from his own half resulted in him being denied the try by
a great cover tackle by the Bedwas number 6 Johny Armitage.
Scrappy play after Bedwas were penalised for holding on, and a great line kick by Lewis
Williams saw Ponty win a clean out. With the backs on for a certain try, a missed pass saw
Bedwas gifted a try which was converted, making the score Bedwas 10 Ponty 7.

Cameron Lewis scored a try at 41 mins which was converted by Lewis K Williams.

 

Half Time Score Ponty 14 : 10 Bedwas

The second half saw a quick fire response from Ponty with a try from Alun Lawrence ,
converted by Lewis Williams , and with the tails up , Ponty continued to pile on the
pressure.
A great try as a result of sustained forward pressure saw Liam Belcher go over in the corner
with the conversion by Lewis Williams made it Ponty 28 Bedwas 10
With the forwards now dominating , great hands and quick passing resulted in Chris
Dicomidis going over for a try which was converted by Lewis Williams Ponty led by 35
points to 10.
A great individual run by speedster sidestepper Dale Stuckey resulted in a fantastic try
making the score 40 points to 10 in the 64th minute.
The floodgates opened and the continued pressure saw Lewis Williams score and covert
making it 47-10.
Just 7 minutes later, Ponty saw the try line again with the “Postman” Alex Webber running
over followed by a conversion by Lewis Williams making the score 54-10.

Bedwas for all their glory fought back to the bitter end, which resulted in a try for the away
team in the 80 th minute and ended the match 54-17.

This win for Ponty and the much needed bonus point, now puts us second on the table 2
points behind Merthyr.

A great win, and a great performance for Ponty, securing a special game for our Captain Daf
Lockyer on his 350th appearance for the club.
