Brecon v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview

Next up Pontypridd RFC head northwards for a first ever match at Parc de Pugh against Brecon RFC. The Admiral Premiership clash takes place this Saturday 29th March and kick-off will be the usual time of 2:30pm.

The two teams’ first ever encounter was earlier this season on Saturday 16th November at Sardis Road. Ponty crossed for six tries courtesy of Jeff Young, Mitch Barnard, Lucus Welch, Dale Stuckey and a brace from Garyn Daniel to seal a 43-11 win. Brecon’s Head Coach is Ponty great Dale McIntosh and the biggest compliment the Chief will want to give his old club is to avenge that defeat this coming Saturday.

Lucus Welch seen here crossing for an excellent late try at Sardis last November.

Ponty will be looking to get back to winning ways following successive Premiership defeats against Merthyr and Bonymaen over the last two weeks. The Valley Commandos still sit top of the league standings, however, their lead has been cut to just a single point over Merthyr who have two games in hand. For Pontypridd the equation is a simple one, they have to win all their remaining matches and hope The Ironmen slip up. Brecon currently occupy 5th place and enjoyed a fine 45 points to 26 win away at Llangennech over the weekend.

Pontypridd have six Premiership matches remaining and as has been mentioned they need six wins to keep their league title dream alive, starting this Saturday – we’ll see you all at Parc de Pugh #PontyFans
