Coaching and Medical Team update

Whilst there have been numerous changes made to the Pontypridd RFC playing squad as a new season approaches, there is a welcome theme of continuity in both the club’s coaching and medical team set-ups respectively.

The coaching team that was assembled towards the end of last season have long been confirmed in their roles. Chris Dicomidis continues at the helm as Head Coach and will also oversee the forwards as part of his remit. Chris will again be aided by Garyn Smith as Backs Coach and Kristian Parker as Defence Coach. Garyn and Kris will continue to combine their coaching roles with playing duties. We are also very pleased to announce that hooker Rob Jones has stepped up and joined the coaching team as Ponty’s new Scrum Coach, a role which he will also combine with playing. Stepping into the breach as Team Manager to help the Club in its hour of need at the end of last season was Stuart Rix. Stuart has worked tirelessly in that position since being appointed and will continue in the role for the 2024/25 season.

Another vital part of the Pontypridd RFC coaching set-up is its Strength and Conditioning Team, and we are delighted to also announce that Nathan Evans will continue to ply his expertise as part of the Club’s coaching team next season. Nathan is a Lecturer at USW and has headed up our strength and conditioning team for five years. Nathan will once again be ably supported by students from the BSc Strength and Conditioning degree at USW.

One of the toughest jobs at the Club is keeping the players held together with strapping and tape on a weekly basis. Pontypridd RFC are lucky to have a first class Medical Team to provide all aspects of medical care including rehabilitation, clinics, advice, pitchside assistance plus much more for both training and matches. We are thrilled to announce that Kathryn Deverson continues in her role as Head of Medical Services, Ben Searle as Physiotherapist and Saffron Hall as Sports Therapist will once again be providing their expertise to the Ponty playing squad throughout next season.
