Cross Keys v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview

Next up for Pontypridd RFC is a return to league action when the team head to Pandy Park to play Cross Keys RFC. The Admiral Premiership clash between the two Welsh Cup finalists kicks off at 2:30pm.

Supporters won’t need reminding that the last time the two clubs met was just 48 hours ago in the Welsh Premiership Cup final. Ponty triumphed by 43 points to 12 to lift the trophy for a 7th time. In terms of league encounters this season Pontypridd and the Keys locked horns at Sardis on Friday evening 7th February and it was a points-fest. The home side fell behind 19-0 in the first half but roared back to eventually win by 43 points to 31 – Ioan Evans claimed a hat-trick of tries, Joe Davies a brace and there was a score for Morgan Bosanko on his 100th appearance for the Club.

The last time the two teams went head-to-head at Pandy Park was on Wednesday 8th May 2019, and it was Ponty who claimed a 24-7 win that evening with Dale Stuckey amongst the scorers with two tries.

February’s match at Sardis saw milestone appearances for two club stalwarts – 100 for Morgan Bosanko and 200 for Dale Stuckey.

Saturday’s match is the first of five remaining league games for the Valley Commandos, and they know that only wins will do if they are to have any chance of finishing at the top of the pile. Merthyr won 52-13 away at Cardiff Met on Saturday to extend their lead at the top to seven points with a game in hand as well.

The Admiral Welsh Premiership table, accurate as of 7/4/2025.

With the Welsh Cup safely in Sardis Road trophy cabinet, all that now remains is one big push to finish the season’s league campaign as strongly as possible – starting in Gwent this Saturday.
