Dicomidis To Depart

We can confirm that Head Coach Chris Dicomidis will be departing the Club to become Team Manager with Cardiff Rugby, bringing his two-decade association with Pontypridd RFC to an end. Chris’ leaving date is yet to be officially confirmed.

Dico has been involved with Pontypridd since 2004 and he played his first match for the Club during pre-season that summer against Rhydyfelin, although his official debut didn’t come until December that year against Caerphilly.

In 2013 he joined the Cardiff Blues on a professional contract so his appearances for the Club were greatly reduced for three seasons, although Ponty still had the benefit of his talent in a few games.

Chris returned to Pontypridd at the conclusion of his stint in the capital and would go on to amass a total of 401 appearances for the Club, and end up in 6th place on the all-time list of matches played for the Valley Commandos.

Already one of Ponty’s greatest ever and most decorated players, he cut short his playing career to step into the breach as Head Coach in the club’s hour of need following the resignations of the then coaching set-up following the team’s league match against Newport in February 2024. Chris’ appointment was initially on an interim basis before it was made permanent before the team’s final match of the 2023/24 season against RGC.

Dico has won 10 out of his 11 competitive matches in charge of Ponty, 15 out of 16 if you include this season’s pre-season games, and has guided the team to pole position in the Welsh Premiership and into the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup as things currently stand.

After 401 appearances as a player and 11 as Head Coach to date, Chris will depart Sardis Road with the sincere best wishes of everyone at Pontypridd RFC, and the Club would like to wish him all the very best for the next chapter in his career.

Thank you for everything Dico
