A native of the Rumney area of Cardiff, Joe Popple had settled in Church Village prior to his association with Pontypridd.
The towering 6ft 4in front rower had spells with both Merthyr and Pontypool before linking up with Ponty in 2016, becoming a firm favourite with the Sardis Road crowd for his barnstorming play in the loose.
Joe was a student at USW who became involved with the Valleys Rugby Initiative as a coach and organiser, before departing to play for Linwood RFC in New Zealand in 2019.
Joe then re-joined Ponty in February 2022 on permit from local club Llantwit Fadre RFC and made a further two appearances for the club before departing at the end of the 2021/22 season.
