Kristian Parker – Captain Ponty
Pontypridd RFC are very pleased to announce Kristian Parker as the new Club Captain. Kris, who was already vice-captain now steps up to the top role after Morgan Sieniawski’s departure from the club to join the Wales 7’s.
Kris joined the club permanently in the summer of 2019 after making one permit appearance at the end of the previous season and has made a huge impact with both team-mates and supporters since. His abrasive style of play, his versatility in covering both the second and back row positions, and his willingness to put his body on the line time and again were the attributes that made such an impression on the Ponty support. This was recognised when he was voted both Ponty Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year – a double accolade at the end of the 2020 season, which finished prematurely.
Reacting to his appointment as Club Captain, Kris said: “To be given the club captaincy is a huge honour and something I never thought I would gain, given the calibre of players who have had the honour previously. To captain such a historic club once is huge, but to be selected for this role is a dream come true being a local boy and supporting Ponty all the way through.
I hope I can add something to the club and squad and help propel us in the right direction and get back to winning some silverware. This is such a talented squad that we have here, it’s great to be a part of and hopefully over the next few years we will see this come to fruition.
Having some experienced heads in Dico, Shelly and Stuckey around make it easier and I’m sure they will continue to help.
All I can say is to the supporters is that every time I pull that jersey on I will give it 110% and hopefully leave it in a better position.”
On the appointment of Parker as Club Captain, Team Manager Dan Godfrey said: “With Morgan stepping up to play for Wales 7’s the decision has been made to award Parker the captain’s arm band. He is well respected in both Pontypridd RFC and the Welsh Premiership. He is a leader on and off the field and we know he will give 100% to Pontypridd. Ole.”
Llongyfarchiadau Kris – Captain Ponty
