Lucus Welch signs for Ponty
Pontypridd RFC are very pleased to announce the signing of Lucus Welch from Ystrad Rhondda. The 22-year-old scrum-half rejoins Ponty having made 8 appearances for the Club between 2021-2023.
Lucus joined Pontypridd at the commencement of the 2021-22 season whilst linked to his local club Ynysybwl. The livewire scrum half’s time at Ponty RFC came to an abrupt end when dislocated his shoulder away at Aberavon in January 2023.
Working his way back to full fitness, Lucus joined up with Ystrad Rhondda last season and helped them gain promotion into this season’s Welsh Premiership before returning to Pontypridd ahead of 2024/25.
On rejoining Pontypridd, Lucus said: “Being an Ynysybwl boy, but growing up watching Pontypridd RFC and now living in the town I couldn’t wait to get back!”
Commenting on Lucus’ signing, Ponty Head Coach Chris Dicomidis said: “We are looking forward to seeing him back in black and white. He had a bit of bad luck last time with us dislocating his shoulder but took himself away for a season to Ystrad where he had a good campaign and was a spark coming on in their final. Lucus is a young Ponty boy who we were very keen to get back and we are looking forward to seeing him working with Joel and pushing for a starting spot in the side. He’s a great character to have around the team.”
Croeso nôl, Lucus!
