Match Preview – Newport v Pontypridd
Pontypridd travel to Newport in the Indigo Group Premiership on Thursday 17th February, the match at Newport Stadium kicking off at 7:30pm. The contest is also being shown live on S4C’s online streaming service S4C Clic.
It’ll be a return to action for the first time in nearly three weeks for both sides. Last time out on Saturday 29th January Ponty suffered a 25-16 reverse at home against Aberavon whilst Newport triumphed 27-17 at Llandovery. Head to head it’s one-all this season – Ponty beat the Black & Ambers 19-16 at Sardis Road in round one of the Premiership Cup back in September, but Newport got their revenge winning 27-11 at Newport Stadium the following month.
Ponty are led by new club captain Kris Parker and have two debutants in their ranks. Recent new signing Cole Swannack takes his place on the right wing and hooker Jack Walker takes his place on the bench. Jack has joined Ponty on permit from Pencoed RFC. Hooker Rob Jones is unavailable as his partner is expecting their baby – everyone at the club sends their best wishes.

Newport RFC’s new home is Newport Stadium, which is situated to the south of the city. For those travelling by car with sat-nav the nearest post code is NP19 4PT and parking is available at the ground.
Supporters can purchase their tickets prior to the match online via the following link – https://blackandambers.co.uk/tickets – you can either print your tickets off or show the QR code at the gate on the night. They are priced at £12 adults, £8 concession and U16’s gaining free entry.
There will be refreshments available in the nearby Newport cricket clubhouse which is open from 5pm onwards.
