Matchday Preview – Ebbw Vale v Pontypridd

Next up is Pontypridd RFC’s first away game of the new league campaign against Ebbw Vale. The match on Saturday 9th September at the Ciner Glass Community Stadium kicks off at 2:30pm.

Last season Ebbw did the league ‘double’ over Ponty. The teams met at Sardis Road back last December and despite falling behind in the match, Ponty rallied through Rob Jones’ brace of tries and a touchdown from Aled Ward to put themselves into the lead. However, Ebbw replacement Kieran Meek kicked a 79th minute penalty to deny the home side and Ebbw headed home with a 23-22 win. Then earlier this year on Thursday 6th April The Steelmen earned a 32-10 win at home in front of the S4C cameras.

Ponty head into this Saturday’s match off the back of a 19-all derby day draw against Cardiff. An excellent first performance of the season from the Valley Commandos may still have left the Sardis Road faithful thinking what could have been with the team nearly nicking the win at the end. Ebbw Vale had to settle for a losing bonus-point in their first league match of the season on Sunday 3rd September – The Steelmen losing out to the Ironmen of Merthyr 24-17 at The Wern.
