Matchday Preview – Newport v Pontypridd

Pontypridd travel to play Newport in the Indigo Group Welsh Premiership on Friday evening 18th November, the match kicks off at 7:30pm.

It will be Ponty’s third visit to the Black and Ambers’ new home – Newport Stadium, which is situated to the south of the city. For those travelling by car with sat nav the nearest post code is NP19 4PT and parking is available at the ground.

Previous matches –

The two clubs met three times in competitive action last season, four times if you include the summer pre-season friendly. On Saturday 14th August 2021 Ponty edged the pre-season friendly at Sardis Road by 17 points to 14. It’s fair to say there was some emotion in the air, not because of the close score line but because it was both clubs’ first matches for nearly 18 difficult months following the global Covid-pandemic. A month later, on Saturday 18th September Ponty came out on top again by a very similar score line of 19-16 at Sardis Road on the opening day of the season proper the Welsh Premiership Cup.

There were another two matches between the clubs in 2021-22, both at Newport Stadium and both yielded wins for the Black & Ambers. On Saturday 23rd October 2021 Newport won 27-11 in the Welsh Premiership Cup and on Thursday 17th February 2022 the home side were 36-7 victors in the Welsh Premiership.

Just to note, you’ll still be able to buy tickets on the gate Friday evening if you wish.

There will be food and refreshments (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available in the ground throughout the evening.

Supporters travel information –

The Pontypridd RFC Supporters Club are organising transport to the ground – the bus will leave Sardis Road at 6:15pm in readiness for the 7:30pm kick-off.
