Media Blog
Whilst Pontypridd RFC, much in common with the rest of the rugby world, has been in hibernation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the club’s media team has been keeping busy throughout lockdown and beyond.
When it became obvious way back in March that no rugby would be played for a long time and that the social facilities at Sardis Road could not be used, we pulled together as a media team with the intention of maintaining an active and positive profile for Ponty RFC.
Through the spring and summer, we have been holding weekly zoom meetings to discuss ideas and to put together a schedule for the club website and social media. Although the club in its various forms has been dormant, it was clear that the large support base needed to be kept engaged ready for the day when rugby eventually returns.
Inevitably, much of the focus on our media platforms has been retrospective, looking back at the club’s glorious history as the future remains unclear. Items such as profiles from the Hall of Fame, On This Day, Throwback Thursdays, Trivia questions and Ponty TV archive videos have proved popular with supporters according to our social media hits.
A major boost was received when the new Ponty rainbow jersey was launched for pre order in mid-August, in support of our hard-working NHS front-line staff. A significant amount of work was carried out by Mike Jones and Craig Thomas of Replay Images in designing the new jersey, setting up an exciting deal with kit suppliers VX3 and preparing for the launch.
The excitement generated by the new multi-colour jersey provides much-needed hope for the future and we look forward with great anticipation to seeing the Ponty players take to the field in the rainbow kit when rugby resumes.
As a media team we will continue to keep the flag flying, even without the prevailing wind of any rugby activity behind us, and to maintain an interest for our dedicated supporters. Keep looking in on our website and social media, you’re more than welcome!
