National Cup round up – 14/09/19
There were two notable giant killing acts in the first round of the Specsavers National Cup, played on the weekend of 14th September, as Championship sides progressed at the expense of their Premiership opponents.
Pontypool maintained their notable cup pedigree of recent seasons by posting a 29pts to 15 home win over Swansea, whilst Beddau took the scalp of Bridgend, victors by 34pts to 21.
Another four Championship teams will stand their ground in the second round of the competition, as Cardiff Met, Cross Keys, Neath and Bedwas all won against opposition from the same division.
Reigning cup champions Cardiff got off a good start in their defence of the trophy, winning at RGC by 24pts to 40. For Pontypridd it was hugely disappointing day, going down by 39pts to 19 away to valley rivals Merthyr.
