Niko Matawalu departs

Pontypridd RFC can confirm that winger Niko Matawalu has left the club.

Niko joined Ponty in the summer of 2022 having had a glittering career in the professional game. Born in Suva, Fiji, Niko won 41 caps for his country and lists Glasgow Warriors, Bath and Montauban amongst some of his former clubs during his career.

Niko combined playing for Pontypridd with his studies at USW, his studies specialising in Rugby Coaching and Analytics and he departs the Club to pursue his career in coaching.

His playing time during the current 2023/24 season has been extremely limited due to an ankle injury picked up in pre-season. Despite injury hampering Niko’s involvement this campaign he has still been a real favourite with the Sardis Road faithful during his two seasons with the club, scoring 6 tries in 23 appearances.

Pontypridd RFC would like to thank Niko for his efforts on the pitch and wish him good luck for the next stage in his rugby career.
