Player Microscope – Brandon Huntley

Brandon Huntley: Centre

Brandon Huntley began his rugby journey in his local valley of Pontycymer and developed his skills at Bryncethin RFC. His path then led him to Bridgend College and whilst there he captained the team and had a stint in the Welsh Premiership with Newport RFC. After finishing college Brandon played three seasons with Cardiff Met University, the highlight being a WRU National Youth Cup victory with the Uni side. After university, he joined Welsh Championship side Maesteg Harlequins and has played there for the last three seasons before being signed by Pontypridd this summer.

Outside of rugby the 24-year-old centre works as a PE teacher, and talking about his profession said: “From a young age, I’ve been passionate about sports and physical activity, which inspired me to become a PE teacher. I love sharing my enthusiasm for fitness and helping students develop their own appreciation for physical education. My goal is to create a fun and engaging environment where every student can explore their potential and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.”

Brandon, who has prior representative honours with Boys Club of Wales U18 and Bridgend District U16, is raring to go with Ponty saying: “Signing with Pontypridd RFC is a significant milestone in my career. Joining such a prestigious club has been surreal, offering me the chance to play at a higher level and work alongside some of the best in the game.”

‘Grab me while you can…’ Brandon in action against St Albans during pre-season.

He added: “Every time you put on that Ponty jersey, there’s a sense of pressure to live up to! The weight of the Ponty jersey is a reminder of the club’s rich history. I see this as a positive challenge, driven by my dedication to the club, the supporters, and my teammates who fight for each other week in and week out.”

“Looking ahead, my ambition is to continue developing as a player, and contribute to the success of Pontypridd RFC.”

Brandon featured heavily during Ponty’s pre-season schedule, and made his official bow for the Club from the bench during last Saturday’s win against Bargoed at Sardis Road.
