Pontypridd v Narberth – Matchday Preview

This Saturday 12th October Pontypridd RFC are back in action and we welcome Narberth RFC to Sardis Road in the Admiral Premiership for a 2:30pm kick-off.

The two clubs have met on just one previous occasion, back on 14th January 2006 in the Welsh Cup. A hattrick of tries from Chris Clayton, a brace from Dan Hitchings, and other scores for Morgan Stoddart, Nathan Strong and Gerald Cox along with five Dai Flanagan conversions resulted in a 50-0 win for Ponty.

The Otters secured promotion to this season’s Premiership after being crowned champions of Championship West last season in which they won 21 out of 22 matches wracking up an impressive 102 points over the duration of 2023/24. Ponty and Narberth have had contrasting starts to the 2024/25 campaign, Ponty have won all three of their three league matches and sit in second position in the standings whereas Narberth have lost their three matches to date.

The Admiral Welsh Premiership table, accurate as of 7/10/2024.

However, the men from Pembrokeshire’s three league defeats doesn’t quite paint the full picture – they lost by just one point away at Ystrad Rhondda on the opening day, lost away at Bargoed and then succumbed to Llangennech at home two Saturdays ago by a 17-8 scoreline before triumphing against Bonymaen last Saturday in the Welsh Cup – that’s enough evidence for anyone to know that it’ll be game on this Saturday.
