Premiership East round up – 19/11/17
The top of the table clash between reigning champions Merthyr and valley rivals Pontypridd was the match of the day, or days to be precise, in an extended Premiership East programme over the weekend of 18th November.
Merthyr hosted Ponty on Friday evening and pulled away in a dominant second half display to claim a bonus point win by 50pts to 21. The visitors however held on to pole position in the table, but only on points difference.
On the same night Cross Keys powered to a 35pts to 27 home win over Cardiff, scoring five converted tries.
The following day Bargoed hosted Bedwas and went down to a 20pts to 26 defeat, the losing bonus point eventually proving important to keep them off the foot of the table. That position was taken by Ebbw Vale who went down to a heavy 42pts to 12 defeat against a resurgent Newport on Sunday afternoon.
