Premiership round up – 04/02/18

The Premiership programme was extended over four days on the weekend of 3d February, the first weekend of the Six Nations tournament.

On Thursday evening Neath went down to a heavy home defeat by 15pts to 41 against Cross Keys, the visitors notching up six tries in the process.

There was a try fest at Sardis Road on Friday evening as Pontypridd crossed no fewer than nine times in posting a 59pts to 14 victory over Llanelli. Carmarthen Quins also made it two wins out of two in the integrated league by edging out Aberavon by 21pts to 15 whilst Bridgend went down to defeat by 13pts to 23 against Cardiff at the Brewery Field.

In the Saturday early kick-off games Merthyr kept hold of top spot in the table, overcoming a 13pts to 7 half time deficit to claim a bonus point away win at Bedwas by 23pts to 34 and Swansea secured a 22pts to 8 home victory over Bargoed. Llandovery’s match against RGC fell foul of a waterlogged pitch at Church Bank.

A long weekend was wound up on Sunday afternoon as Newport kept in touch with the leader board, edging a close win by 18pts to 15 over Ebbw Vale.
