Premiership round up – 21/04/18
Merthyr’s march towards a second successive Premiership title stuttered on Saturday 21st April, going down to defeat in a top of the table clash against Carmarthen Quins.
The Quins came away from Y Wern with a 21pts to 33 bonus point victory, putting them just two points behind the Ironmen in the league rankings. Pontypridd kept in touch at the top courtesy of a 21pts to 38 away win at Bargoed, but had to rally late on having trailed at the interval by 21pts to 12.
There was a try fest at the Bridge Field as Bedwas registered nine touchdowns to Cross Keys’ five in a 57pts to 34 win, home winger Ryan Davies claiming a hat-trick. The score was tighter at Eugene Cross Park where Ebbw Vale edged a 26pts to 25 win over RGC.
Aberavon posted a valuable 41pts to 5 home win over form team Newport, who might have had one eye on next week’s National Cup Final, whilst Bridgend were comfortable 24pts to 0 winners against Swansea.
Bottom placed Neath seemed set for a home win over Llandovery, leading by 23pts to 7 at the break but then capitulating to lose by 32pts to 40.
