Premiership round up 04/01/20
The first weekend of the New Year saw a full programme of Premiership fixtures, albeit with the game between Swansea and Aberavon called off due to illness in the home camp.
The Scrum V cameras on Friday evening focussed on the Ebbw Vale v Merthyr tie, with the reigning champions edging a 17pts to 19 victory and the bottom placed Steelmen left to rue their missed kicking opportunities.
There were two try fests on Saturday, with both teams scoring five apiece. Newport claimed a crucial away win at Bridgend by 36pts to 38 in a relegation battle whilst Llandovery came away from RGC with a creditable 29pts to 35 win.
Carmarthen Quins regained momentum to consolidate second position in the table with a hard fought 27pts to 20 win over visitors Pontypridd, who were leading at the break by 13pts to 17.
In the Saturday evening televised game, Cardiff restored their winning habit with a 35pts to 14 bonus point victory over Llanelli, the capital club maintaining a fifteen point lead at the top of the table.
