Premiership round-up 14/12/19

Premiership Match of the Day on the 14th of December was the clash between title hopefuls Cardiff and reigning champions Merthyr at the Arms Park.

It was the Blue and Blacks who pulled away in the second half to nail a 20pts to 3 victory, their tenth in succession, and pull twelve points clear at the top of the table.

Leading the chasing pack are Carmarthen Quins who edged a high scoring match against Newport by 26pts to 20. There were points aplenty also at Colwyn Bay where RGC consigned previous form team Aberavon to their fourth consecutive defeat by 36pts to 30, both teams crossing for five tries apiece.

An injury time try allowed Swansea to take the spoils against Pontypridd, edging a 26pts to 24 victory. In the basement battle Bridgend gave themselves a glimmer of hope by winning away at Ebbw Vale by 15pts to 18, but still rooted to the foot of the table, three bonus points adrift of the Steelmen.
