Sieniawski Departs
Pontypridd captain Morgan Sieniawski has left the club to pursue a career with Wales 7’s.
Morgan, who has won international honours with Wales from youth to under 20 level, joined Ponty in 2017 and proved himself to be a consistently outstanding performer, covering all positions across the back row.
His top form at Premiership level earned Sieniawski a deserved call up to the senior Wales 7’s squad in 2020, featuring in a number of World Series tournaments. Following the disbandment of the national sevens set-up, he decided to take a direct return ticket to his local club Pontypridd.
His homecoming coincided with a pressing of the restart button as a player, converting from the flanker to centre position and he was named club captain for the commencement of the 2021/22 season. Morgan has made 71 appearances for the club over his two spells, scoring 16 tries.
Since the restart of rugby post-pandemic lockdowns, the Welsh 7’s programme started back up and Morgan was again approached by the WRU to take up a contract with the national side.
On leaving the club, Morgan said: “It was never an easy decision for me to go because being captain for Ponty was literally a childhood dream for me, but the offer to represent my country is something I couldn’t turn down.”
On Morgan’s departure from the club, Pontypridd RFC CEO Steve Reardon said: “Since his debut in 2017, Morgan has made a significant contribution to Pontypridd Rugby Football Club upon the field of play. He achieved this, latterly as Club Captain but also, through more than 70 appearances for the Club spread over the course of two spells, interrupted only by a previous tenure as a player with Wales Sevens. The Club wishes to thank him for his contribution and to wish him every success upon his recall to the Wales Sevens Squad.”
Diolch Morgan.
