Squad update – back three

Pontypridd have strengthened their back line for the coming season with the addition of a number of players to cover the full back and wing positions.

Lloyd Rowlands and Dale Stuckey remain in place from the previous campaign, whilst Morgan Richards also stays on having recently been released by the Dragons Academy.

Experienced full back Llywarch ap Myrddin links up with Pontypridd having played in the past for RGC, Newport and Cardiff. Another valuable addition to the squad is South African born winger Lex Botha who joins from Fylde RFC having represented the Sharks at Currie Cup level in his homeland and gained Premiership experience with Llandovery.

Pontypridd Youth graduate Joe Davies makes a return to the club having previously played at senior level during the 2016-17 season before taking time out to complete his university studies and to travel and play in the United States. Another two young incoming wingers are Cavan Davies who has impressed during his time with Coleg y Cymoedd and Will Huggins who came through the ranks of Llantwit Fardre and Pontypridd Schools.

Ponty’s back three quota is further enhanced by the inclusion of Cardiff Rugby regional intern Iwan Pyrs Jones.

With so many new additions to the squad, two players who have departed are full backs Rhodri Smith and Bailey Roberts, both having previously stepped up from the ranks of Ponty Youth.
